North of Gdów and Niegowić, in the village of Staniątki, you can find one of the most ancient shrines in Małopolska.
According to legend, this is where St Adalbert stopped to rest. The origins of the local convent of the Benedictine Sisters date back to 1200. In the historic church of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Adalbert, there is the miraculous image of Our Lady of Sorrows (Dolorosa). This beautiful, Gothic painting from Italy was crowned with the papal tiara by Cardinal Sapieha in 1924. The most important festival is related to the commemoration of Our Lady of Sorrows, and takes place on the 15th of September. On the 23rd of April, the parish commemorates ST Adalbert, the patron saint of Poland, Bohemia, and Hungary.
