Tarnów and its surroundings

In the Tarnów area, there are almost 40 interesting historic buildings that belong to the Wooden Architecture Route. The UNESCO listed St. Leonard’s Church in Lipnica Murowana is undoubtedly one of the most interesting and famous ones. Many more charming churches have survived between the Raba and Wisłoka rivers. Some are especially worth recommending, as they are open to visitors on particular days between May and September (usually: Thu 12pm–4pm, Fri 12pm–4pm, Sat 10pm–2pm). You can see these churches in Chronów, Gosprzydowa, Iwkowa, Rajbrot, Skrzyszów, Sobolów, Tymowa and Zawada. In Tarnów, the region’s capital, you can admire two beautiful sacred buildings. The area also boasts historic manor houses converted into museums, for instance that in Dołęga, as well as wooden building complexes. An excellent example of the latter is the so-called Painted Village in Zalipie.
