St. Simon of Lipnica

A passionate preacher, born between 1435 and 1440 in Lipnica Murowana, he died in Krakow during the cholera epidemic in 1482, while caring for the sick. He was a monk at the Bernardine Monastery in Krakow and was known for his piety, fiery sermons and an ascetic way of life. He was beatified in the 17th century, canonized in 2007 by Pope Benedict XVI, and was buried in his original monastery. His feast day falls on July 18.
